Sherpa Kitchen brings a taste of Nepalese cuisine to Esher, in Surrey. At the heart of Nepalese food is daal, bhat (lentils and rice), and achar (chutney) surrounded by lots of other main dishes, beautifully seasoned with fresh herbs and spices.
Sherpa kitchen utilises fresh produce and traditional preparations, using the "khal", a stone mortar, to create a unique dining experience. The restaurant itself features classic Nepalese decor alongside a welcoming, homely atmosphere which makes for a great date night spot.
Begin with appetisers of traditional potato cakes made with lentils, spinach, and fresh herbs, alongside meaty dishes like tempura squid, and tender cubes of lamb spiced and coated in yoghurt. Why not try sharing a few small plates to try a real mixture of authentic Nepalese cooking?
On to the main course and Sherpa Kitchen truly spoils its diners for choice. There are chef specials such as methi chicken, cooked in exotic spices, as well as barbequed shredded chicken cooked in chilli, ginger, and garlic.
If you fancy branching out, try the piro lamb dish - boneless lamb is spiced with ginger, garlic, coriander, and green chillies, and can be made extra hot on request if you're feeling brave. However, if you're not a fan of spice, there's also milder dishes of mayalu lamb and rara chicken.
There are plenty of delicious sides to add to your main courses. You might want to try the chow chow noodles which are delicately prepared according to traditional recipes. Other options includes lightly spiced mushrooms, grilled vegetables, steamed rice and egg fried rice.
No diner is to be left unsatisfied thanks to the huge range of vegetarian dishes. From an authentic daal to steamed pumpkin mains, to side dishes of spiced potatoes and vegetables. Whatever you pick, don't forget to add a delicious naan or roti to soak up those delicious sauces.
