If you've been to Scotland then you've no doubt heard of Scran, an incredible cafe with a touch of something special. Chris and the Scran family want everybody who visits to feel like they have been welcomed in with open arms, to enjoy the personal touches that the staff ensure are there every day, and feast on delicious treats.
Brunch buns include a brioche bun with breaded wholetail scampi, Orkney crab and egg mayo with avocado lime crema and baby gem lettuce, along with a vegan option with pea and chilli puree, pickled veg and truffle mayo. Toasties are delicious winter warmers, with options of the Catalonian with chorizo, roast chicken, garlic aioli, hash browns and salsa bravas. If you have a sweet tooth then you'll want to order the brioche French toast topped with Nutella mascarpone, fresh blueberries, salt and pepper caramel and shortbread, before being sprinkled with pistachio crumble. Scran are famous for their incredible fries, with flavour pairing of smashed burger meat with secret sauce, mature cheddar, fresh chives and crispy onions, and a Scran take on patatas bravas with garlic aioli and onions.
The huevos Scrancheros is a delicious dish of refried beans, pico de gallo, avocado crema, queso-fresco and poached eggs on blue corn tortillas, and classic breakfast dish lovers should order the eggs Benedict with smoked Ayrshire bacon, poached eggs on sourdough with hollandaise and an onion and burnt bacon crumb. Sometimes, though, only the simple things will do. The beast from the east brekkie roll is filled with Stornoway black pudding, smoked bacon, hash browns, a fried egg and creamy hollandaise sauce. If you want to go off the menu, be sure to check out the specials for something a bit different.
