Liverpool is blessed with all kinds of cuisines, but one of our favourite types of food is still a little underrated here (in our opinion). We’re talking about tapas. Thankfully the team behind the Salt House Charcuteria and Tapas Bar noticed a gap in the market a few years back when they opened their small family-run restaurant. Since its introduction to the scouse scene its become popular with locals and tourists alike thanks to a winning menu of traditional small plates that run alongside slightly more unusual serves.
To kick things off in style why not share a jug of white, red or rose sangria and share some snacky bits. These come in the form of sweet pickled chillies, salty roasted almonds and classic pan con tomate – a deliciously fresh tomato-topped toast serve. For the main event choose a few dishes from each section – charcuteria, meat, fish and vegetables – to come up with a DIY dinner of all your favourite things. Top shouts by us include sautéed smoky baby chorizo with sweet, sticky honey; sizzling garlic and chili prawns doused in olive oil and a traditional potato tortilla served with aioli.
When it comes to special requests the kitchen are willing to go above and beyond to ensure every diner is happy. There are vegan, gluten-free and dairy free menus to kick things off, and if your requirements happen outside of these categories just speak to the friendly team for advice.
Puddings throw up classics with a twist, like chocolate brownies that come with a marshmallow mouse or cheesecake that has been given a good hit of tartness thanks to plums and a rich brandy snap.
Interiors align with the menu of bold, rustic flavours with bare wooden tables, neutral walls and simple decorations in the form of paprika pot cutlery holders.
