In the city that has brought us some of the greatest night life venues of all time (Cavern Club we’re looking at you), there’s no shortage of places to head for booze and a boogie in Liverpool – and that includes Salt Dog Slim’s. This late night (or should we say early morning?) bar can be found on Seel Street in the heart of the city and serves steins, brines and cocktails way after the clock strikes midnight. It describes itself as an emporium of world beers, bespoke cocktails and American-style chilli hotdogs and has been throwing parties in Liverpool since 2012.
Interiors wise, there are exposed red brick walls to bring that cool, urban feel people go crazy for, along with red leather booth seating, rustic wooden floors and burgundy tones throughout. Its food and drinks offering is simple – cocktails, beers and hotdogs – and you'll find a concise but innovative menu of all of the above. From the cocktail list, expect plenty of unique options including Salt Dog Millionaire (bacardi, bacardi oro, apricot, sloe gin, passionfruit, pineapple, mango, citrus), St Tropez Sour (eristoff vodka, raspberry, rhubarb, cranberry, egg whites, jam) and When Lola Met Brando (Jack Daniels, Amaretto and cherry coke). Bartenders will also make up any classic cocktail you like – just ask!
Beers are served on tap or by the can/bottles, with the former served in schooners or steins, and there are also plenty of spirits on the menu. The bar transforms into a dancefloor come night time, perfect if you’re heading out for a party of celebration. It also hosts cocktail masterclasses at the latter end of the week where guests can learn to shake up some of its legendary cocktails.
If you need something to soak up one two many drinks, then make sure to order one of its American-style hotdogs slathered in mustard and ketchup and served in red baskets.
