From the team behind Namaaste Kitchen in Camden, this sleek contemporary Indian serves the needs of touristy Bloomsbury and Russell Square with its blend of smart interiors and “tremendous” cooking. A few traditional curry-house stalwarts pop up here and there, but the emphasis is on more innovative ideas and regional specialities – so expect biryanis, dhansaks, tandooris and Bukhara grills alongside more upbeat creations. Starters of spiced scallops with mango salsa or home-smoked duck breast with tamarind potato salad might precede jumbo crab vindaloo, dhaba gosht (goat curry with potatoes) or pan-seared tilapia with caramelised onion sauce and aubergines. Dishes from Kerala and Goa also feature, while vegetables (including “outstanding” makhani dhal) are a cut above the norm. Buffet lunches are aimed at local students, workers and back-packing tourists. Very decent house wine and unusual cocktails too.
