On the Isle of Wight in Ryde, RT Cafe Grill is one of the town's newest restaurants, based in the Royal Maritime House. The menus here have been created by chef Robert Thompson, and are inspired by the incredible flavours that are found on this sunny island, and Thompson's experiences as a chef. There is no finer place to enjoy unparalleled views of the beautiful Solent than RT Cafe Grill.
The a la carte menu begins with a selection of snacks to share amongst the table. Why not order the cashews with lemon and sea salt crackers and lemon hummus to begin, or some blinis with sour cream and Exmoor Cornish salted caviar to enjoy whilst you look through the menu. There's a whole section on Carlingford oysters, and they come in sets of three, six or 12. The rockefeller crispy oysters are coated in Japanese panko breadcrumbs and come with spinach and cream. Your starter may be the prawn cocktail with king prawns, classic Marie Rose sauce, radish and black treacle soda bread, or the buffalo mozzarella with peas, edamame beans, lemon and pea shoots. For slightly lighter dishes, there are a few salads and pasta dishes to choose from, such as the house Caesar and gnocchi primavera.
Main plates include the tenderloin of pork schnitzel with fries, capers, flat parsley and lemon, along with the tarte fine of heritage tomatoes with a roasted tomato fondue, smoked cheese and basil. There are several options off the grill, too, including fillet steak and grilled lobster thermidor. If burgers are your thing, try the slightly different tandoori-spiced lamb burger with feta, avocado, and red onion, with relish, a mint and lime beefsteak tomato and lettuce.
