Pioneers of the Shoreditch scene, the collective behind the once unspeakably cool Dream Bags Jaguar Shoes and subsequent hole-ups Hand of Glory and The Victoria have now taken a shine to Stratford. RedYellowBlue is dressed up like a 1970s polytechnic common room: all Artex, wood-chip wallpaper and repro-retro functional furniture. The boxy white space gets its groove on at night, when ‘an immersive projection-mapped interactive digital display’ (aka mood lighting) kicks in, along with DJs spinning anything from 1970s disco, hip-hop and electronica to Turkish boogie. Cocktails reprise the collective’s biggest hits – a blackberry-flavoured Manhattan as served at Old Shoreditch Station, for instance – and RYB signatures Apocolympic Royale (a vodka, King’s Ginger, hibiscus and lemon Bellini) and ‘Painkiller Colada’. Workaday vino, own-brand beers and bottled craft brews courtesy of Bethnal Green’s Redchurch and Walthamstow’s Wild Card might accompany Wild Dog Kitchen’s burgers, hot dogs ‘neon slaw’ and curly fries.
