Situated next door to the Red Dog Saloon (but not related), this is ‘food dude’ Tom Brooke’s take on the humble American ‘sub’. Fifteen hot and cold versions of the class US sandwich roll are on offer, from ‘Philly cheesesteak’, pulled pork and catfish po’ boy to the Cuban (roast pork, chorizo, Swiss cheese, mustard and pickles) – all made with naturally reared British meats and artisan bread. There are also four offbeat dogs (try The King with bockwurst, peanut butter, jelly and bacon), plus a few sides, salads and calorific desserts. To drink, order something ’soft’ (sodas, milkshakes, coffee) or something ’hard’ (Rebel Yell bourbon or Longboard Hawaiian lager). Inside, it looks like a diner fantasy, with red banquettes and highballs, steel-topped tables, distressed mirrors and a mural depicting American icons. Eat in or take away. No bookings.
