Rara, found in Sandycombe Road in Kew, is the rare kind of restaurant that cynical Londoners will cross a river for. Baz, the enthusiastic and welcoming owner, is worth the trip on his own; his passion for traditional Nepalese cuisine is infectious. Rara’s minimalist dining room – with cream leather banquettes and beautiful fresh flowers - belies the sensational flavours and exquisite presentation of the food. Cooked without Ghee butter, and made using spices freshly ground in the kitchen, the dishes here are superb. Our favourites include the master chef’s King Prawn Jhalfrezi with lemon rice, the Rara Special Mix – chicken tikka, sautéed mushrooms and samosas, and the Gurkhali Lamb – a spicy Nepalese village-style lamb curry.
