Owned and run by Ranjit Kaur, who moved over from the Punjab region in the north west of India to the UK in the early 80s, Ranjit's Kitchen is a Punjabi restaurant and deli serving authentic Indian dishes. Found in the southside of Glasgow, the restaurant prides itself on serving the homemade food that you would find being cooked in households across the Punjab. All the curries on offer at Ranjit's Kitchen are made freshly every day and are served on a first-come-first-served basis, meaning that it's best to get here early to avoid disappointment.
The restaurant-cum-deli has an almost café-like feel to it, with a very relaxed and friendly vibe. The space has minimal decor but has been finished in such a way that it feels crisp, modern, and bright. What Ranjit's Kitchen certainly isn't is pretentious but that's part of the place's charm; you might have to go up to the counter to order your food, and you'll probably end up sitting at the end of a long table with another group sitting further down.
The food menu is incredibly reasonably priced and changes regularly depending on what's available in the local fruit and vegetable shops, but one thing that never changes is the fact that it's entirely vegetarian with plenty of vegan options available too. Dishes on offer might include sweet chana with paneer, Punjabi daal of the day served with rotis, and aloo tikki pieces served alongside chickpeas, tamarind chutney, and a mint yoghurt dip. There's also the option to go for a full Punjabi tea for two, which includes a range of dishes, dips, sweets, and hot drinks, for just £15.95.
Ranjit's Kitchen doesn't serve alcohol but it does serve a range of soft drinks including guava juice, coconut water, and a choice of different lassis.
