About

This newly refurbished Victorian pub in the quaint Old Bouverie area of Folkstone is a favourite with locals thanks to its great selection of locally sourced food and drink and welcoming interiors. From spacious vibrant dining areas to more cosy intimate corners it epitomises a classic country boozer with a contemporary edge. It was recently obtained by the team behind the well-known Rocksalt Restaurant, The Wife of Bath in Wye and The Duke William in Ickham.

The concise menu is an ode to British classics using the finest local produce to create dishes of understated elegance. From the starters highlights include a haggis scotch egg with tomato chutney; Loch Duart salmon and lemon fishcake with a poached egg and tartare sauce; and a classic prawn cocktail.

Main course comprise a collection of hearty classics including Kentish pie of the day with mash and mushy peas; Romney lamb neck curry with pilaff rice; and smoked haddock with champ, a poached Burford Brown egg and chive butter sauce. Steaks are also a popular option servedwith fries watercress and a classic Bearnaise sauce.

Vegetarians are also well catered for with options that may even entice the most carnivorous of diners to abstain from meat. A rich Mac & Cheese is pimped with mushroom and leeks while an unusual butternut squash, beans and cheese pie comes accompanied with mash and mushy peas.

Puddings are equally traditional and heart-warming. From the enticing list of options diner can choose from the likes of sticky toffee pudding with vanilla ice cream; banoffee cheesecake with salted caramel; and apricot Bakewell tart with clotted cream. Or those who prefer a savoury dessert can choose between a selection of Kent and Sussex artisan cheeses with oatcakes and grapes or an indulgent baked British Camembert with figs, walnuts and Docker sourdough to share.

A more casual menu is also offered for visitors to enjoy in the bar or takeaway. The innovative snack selection includes mussel popcorn, pork crackling and Folkestone whelks , while heartier options comprise a gourmet selection of sandwiches, burgers, battered fish and wood fired pizzas.
