Vibrant, passionate South American meets sophisticated, old-school Italian at this no-nonsense, buzzy space in East India Dock’s Republic complex. A useful café and juice bar by day, it serves up home-made breads and simple dishes either to eat in or to take back to desks. During the cocktail hour of 5-6pm, this Argentine-Italian hybrid transforms itself into a restaurant proper, with bar/proprietor Missy Flynn overseeing fresh juice-based cocktails, while business partner Gabriel Pryce sends the likes of buratta with salsa nero (based on aubergine and squid ink) or handmade trofie out of the kitchen. There's also whole roasted fish and carefully sourced joints of meat available, cooked on an outdoor grill. Flynn worked at Happiness Forgets and 69 Colebrooke Row, before setting up Rita's in Hackney with Pryce. As for Quilombero's name, it translates from the Argentinian dialect Lunfardo (created by Genoese immigrants in the 1800s) as 'messy' and 'rowdy' so, um, don't wear your best outfit.
