Don't let Pizza Posto's no-frills looks put you off - this place is the real deal. While there is an ongoing debate about which pizzeria is the best in Edinburgh, Posto is certainly in the running, and great value to boot. The dough uses multi-cereal flour and is blast baked in the clay oven, which locks in the natural flavour and moisture. The result is a soft, crust with plenty of flavour and a light base. Available on various delivery platforms, you don't have to even step out of your front door to enjoy authentic Neopolitan pizza.
As one might expect from such a laid-back eatery, the drinks list is pretty short. You can expect a couple of one or two reds and whites, draft beers and a few bottles of cider for good measure, along with softs. Start off with a classic garlic pizza bread (with or without cheese), rosemary focaccia or the signature burrata focaccia with cherry tomatoes, pesto and fresh basil.
From there, it's straight on to the main event: pizza. There are usually about nine or ten options, with a range of additional toppings for those who like to customise. Purists, as always, can opt for the Margherita or marinara, but there are more exciting options to be explored too. Try the Tuscan sausage with nduja and friarielli (Italian wild broccoli) if you like meat and a kick of chilli, or the grilled veg one if you like your greens. The signature, and award-winning 'grande Italia' is a must-try for first-timers, featuring a tomato base with for di latte, rocket, parmesan, parma ham, burrata, basil and extra virgin olive oil.
Finish with a 99 (yes, really), nutella pizza with strawberries or affogato. Pizza Posto also offers coffee for those in need of a wake up after the feast.
