La Garrigue is a French bistro located at 31 Jeffrey Street, just a stone's throw from Edinburgh's famous Royal Mile and minutes away from Waverley station. Opening its doors back in 2001, the restaurant has taken inspiration from the Languedoc region in the South of France, and offers guests a taste of traditional family style cooking that is complemented by a great selection of wines from the area, which is known as Le Midi. Inside, you'll feel comfy and cosy, with rustic Tim Stead tables and chairs and original paintings by Andrew Walker from French towns of Combret and Bedarieux. La Garrigue offers you the chance to try alternative food whilst keeping the Gallic stamp of quality.
Some of the delicious starters on the menu include a twice baked roquefort souffle with chicory, pear and walnuts, along with a traditional fish soup with saffron and garlic dips and croutons, and a classic French pairing of smoked trout with free range egg mayonnaise and rocket leaves. For your main course, you may enjoy the fish of the day, herb crusted fillet of cod with mussels and a spicy sausage risotto, a Scotch beef ribeye with spinach and potato roulade, corn fed chicken with a panisse chickpea croquette, and a duck tournedos with fig and fondant potatoes. Desserts are quite often as important as the preluding dishes when it comes to French dining. Try a traditional creme brulee scented with lavender, an apple tart tatin, or Valencian orange tart with meringue and berry coulis. Other desserts include liquid boozy desserts, a cheese board, baked chocolate cheesecake and selection of homemade ice creams and sorbets.
There are also brunch menus, children's menus and specialist menus for occasions such as Christmas and Easter, so you'll always find something new on the menu.
