Author and foodie go-getter Philip Dundas created PipsDish as a garage pop-up in Islington, before graduating to this enterprising permanent site on Hoxton Square. Launched in collaboration with kitchen design company Plain English, the ‘lunch club’ is a bookings-only venue and there’s no formal menu – dishes are created on the day, depending on the market; expect to pay £20 (including a glass of wine). PipsDish is also open for all-inclusive, private supperclub-style dinners (£55 with drinks) from Monday to Thursday. There’s no telling what you might be offered, but past successes have included the likes of cep, star anise and fino consommé, venison burgers with tzatzki, vanilla risotto with truffle paste, baked gammon and chips or Shorthorn beef bourguignon with rainbow chard. Also expect special events including occasional literary lunches and guided workshops on the theme of ‘cooking without recipes’.
