A vinyl shop wouldn’t naturally be a place you’d head to for something to eat, but Pie & Vinyl gives the game away in its title. No prizes for guessing what this award winning, independent record shop specialises in when it comes to food. It’s a properly cosy space, with records lining the walls on all sides, and the décor has a charming mix and match vintage vibe. You can expect a range of lighting overhead – in all different styles – and the eclectic furniture really lends itself to the feeling of being in someone’s home rather than being in a pie shop.
At one side you’ll find the service area, where there’s a good range of drinks on offer as well as the all-important pie counter. Happily, the team very recently decided to make their pies even bigger, so you can expect a hearty portion whichever type you choose. In fact, there’s pretty much something for everyone here with meat, vegetarian, vegan and gluten free iterations all available. The meal deals represent the best value, with pies and sides grouped to allow for a nice little discount. The Soul Sensation – for instance – gives you the choice of any pie with two sides, gravy or liquor, and a topping of cheesy breadcrumbs and crispy onions for just £13.50.
There are lots of options when it comes to the main event. Think chicken Balti in a puff pastry pie; steak, red wine and mushroom; or tofu chicken with leeks, garlic and white wine. Sides range from creamy mash and minty mushy peas through to smoky baked beans and even hash brown puffs. Topping everything off is a range of craft soft drinks and a rotating line-up of locally brewed beers and ciders.
If you don’t have time to eat in, there’s also the option to enjoy the pies on a takeaway basis. These can be collected between 6-10pm and are served hot, ready to eat.
