Established in 1994 and “a firm favourite for 20 years” (according to one Twickenham local), Osteria Pulcinella has built up a solid reputation for no-nonsense Italian regional cooking at very affordable prices. Kids have their own menu, while grown-ups can pick their way through a selection that runs all the way from stuzzichini nibbles and antipasti (beef carpaccio with parsnip cream and sherry vinaigrette, say) to classic desserts including tiramisu and Nutella-filled gnocchi with mint compote. In between, expect a strong showing of pasta ranging from penne with confit lamb neck and Pecorino to hand-wrapped tortelli with golden beets, Gorgonzola and cream sauce, plus mains including potato-crusted turbot with capers and olives, slow-cooked rabbit in tomato sauce or calf’s liver with butter and sage. Breakfast and weekend brunch are a regular draw, and you’re also welcome to drop by for a reviving cappuccino or espresso during the day.
