Welcome to Oliver’s Restaurant and Fagin’s Wine Bar, a charming family-owned establishment in Penketh, Warrington, where the team takes pride in offering top-notch cuisine and beverages. And, if you’re a fan of Charles Dickens, you’ll be charmed by the names — nodding to Oliver Twist and the crook Fagin.
The lunch menu is packed with delicious dishes. Beginning with the soup of the day, fish croquettes on a bed of mixed leaves and red pepper coulis, and homemade beef and pork meatballs served in a spicy tomato sauce. For your main, why not enjoy a light pasta dish or a bean burger with lettuce, tomato, gherkins and chips.
On the a la carte menu, there are delicious Portobello mushrooms stuffed with blue cheese and a bed of baby leaves kicking off the starters, roasted pork ribs with barbecue sauce, parma ham and nduja bruschetta with a drizzle of honey and a gratin dish of prawns, scallops and mussels. Mains range from chicken breast, pan fried in a cream and mushroom sauce served with mashed potatoes and carrots and a sea bass fillet roasted on a bed of home cut potatoes, with olives, cherry tomatoes and green vegetable, to a cotoletta milanese and salmon supreme.
There’s a whole section for pasta and risotto, from homemade pasta parcels stuffed with ricotta and spinach, served in a tomato and basil sauce, and linguine with smoked salmon and fresh courgette in a light creamy sauce, to homemade trofiette nduja sauce topped with mascarpone and half moon shaped parcels, stuffed with ricotta, black truffle and porcini, in a cream of parmesan sauce.
You can also enjoy Oliver's traditional afternoon tea, served until 5pm Monday through to Thursday, and 4pm on Friday and Saturday. There are plenty of delicious dishes on the menu, from chicken with honey mustard and mayonnaise sandwiches to sweets of scones and clotted cream with jam.
