SquareMeal Review of Old Street Records

Silver Award

Copious booze, sloppy-topped pizzas, banging live lounge sets and twerky good times to Motown, funk and retro rock; that's the deal at this spin-off from the team behind music-themed Venn Street and Northcote Records in Clapham. Done out like a New York East Village dollar-a-daiquiri dive circa Blondie's Atomic, this post-punk meltdown on two floors is aimed at those who are now dumping digital in favour of the recording medium their parents were passionate about. Here you can not only listen to vinyl, but also buy it straight off the racks. Meanwhile, top of the alcopops are a peach-flavoured Negroni and a vodka, grapefruit and marmalade Martini that is perhaps more Ellie Goulding than Nicki Minaj – the sort of diva who'd likely get her rap on to Black Daniels (a sweet berry 'n' cherry, whisky-laced sling that comes on like pimped-up Vimto). There are craft beers and chasers for hard-core rockers too.
