A highly regarded chain in its native Italy, mozzarella specialist Obicà is now making its mark in London's St Paul's. Like its sleek, modernist siblings across the globe, it takes the simplicity, convenience and presentation of a sushi bar and applies it to hand-made cheese crafted from premium buffalo milk.
As you would expect from a mozzarella bar, this versatile produce pops up all over the menu. If you're happy to trust Obicà to do what it does best, start with a mozzarella tasting. Accompanied by a simple drizzle of black truffle oil, there are seven different mozzarellas to try including smoked burrata and smoked mozzarella di bufala, ricotta di bufala and stracciatella di burrata. You could also order one of the sharing boards which do something similar served with dates and walnuts, adding slices of prosciutto and salame, too.
Moving on, and Obicà St Paul's offers a wide selection of small plates to get you started. We like the sound of Scottish smoked salmon with fennel, parsley and anchovy dressing, the squid and baby octopus stew with baby tomatoes and grilled polenta, and the cauliflower and charred gratin with Parmesan Fondue.
For the main dishes, there's a huge selection across salads, pizzas and pastas. Salads offer a good selection of vegetarian bases mixing a range of fresh ingredients such as lamb's lettuce with chickpeas, avocado, pumpkin and Datterini tomatoes confit in the quinoa salad, while the pastas have some great seafood options. The beetroot spaghetti alla chitarra brings together prawns, bisque sauce, potato cream and thyme, while you'll also find classics on the menu such as carbonara and cacio e pepe.
For dolci, enjoy indulgent concoctions like flourless chocolate and almond cake with Italian gelato, complemented with an after dinner cocktail. The drinks list has all your favourites from Espresso Martinis to Negronis.
