Cream & honey & pale wood characterise this contemporary restaurant & bar, & Nice lives up to its reputation as a good hang-out for friends wishing to share bar stools & a
bottle of wine, or a table for some decent food. Everything on the modern British menu arrives beautifully presented: main course risottos include tomato with wilted spinach or chicken with wild
mushroom, there are plenty of light salads & pasta dishes, as well as heartier offerings along the lines of bangers & mash or roast Norfolk duckling with caramelised apple. The only quibble
is that the menu doesn’t change frequently enough. In summer, the front of the restaurant opens up, imbuing the space with the nearest thing to a Riviera feel you’ll find so close to the Pennines.
