Pret launches new vegan bakery concept

Vegan diners picking up a snack at lunch or on their commute will be able to find Pret’s vegan bakery at all of the brand’s Veggie Pret stores from today (21 July). The launch of the new vegan range has seen all non-vegan products removed from the bakery counter and replaced with eight tempting new options.

Veggie Pret already serves up two vegan baked goods, The Very Berry Croissant and The Dark Chocolate and Almond Butter Cookie, but these will now be joined by three new vegan croissants, three vegan muffins and two vegan brownies. These alternative croissants are made with a mixture of margarine and sunflower oil, which aims to mimic the traditionally buttery texture of the classic French snack. The new croissants come in plain, almond or chocolate flavours, while those who prefer muffins can tuck into banana and walnut, choca mocha or raspberry and coconut varieties.

If you are after something a little more indulgent, you can opt for either The Ultimate Vegan Brownie or The Hazelnut and Caramel Brownie, which features roasted hazelnuts and vegan caramel.

The launch of Pret’s new bakery makes it the first high street food-to-go retailer that offers a fully vegan bakery counter.

Speaking about the launch, UK managing director of Pret Clare Clough said: “We’re really proud to be the first high street food-to-go retailer to launch a unique concept like this. Expanding Veggie Pret’s offering for our vegan customers has been a huge focus of our food development over the last year and moving to an entire vegan bakery is very much the result of that.”

“In the first few weeks of the Very Berry Croissant being on sale, it sold more than double the amount per day of the non-vegan jam croissant it replaced – so we can’t wait to hear what our customers think of these new treats.”

The vegan bakery at Pret is available now at all UK Veggie Pret stores and is also available for delivery via Pret Delivers, Deliveroo and UberEats.
