London's most luxurious Cornish Pasties launching at Selfridges

Cornish pasty specialists Ginsters have launched a limited-edition luxury range at legendary department store Selfridges.

So you knew it was Pancake Day but did you know it’s also Cornish Pasty Week? No, we didn’t think so. If this is music to your ears then you’re going to want to make a special trip to Selfridges this week. Granted, it might not seem like the obvious destination to go on the hunt for the humble folded pie, but trust us when we say you’re going to want to see the new luxury range that Ginsters are launching this week at Oxford Street’s most famous department store.

Pasty pursuers will have a choice of three fillings to choose from all devised by Michelin-starred chef Chris Eden from Gidleigh Park. And don’t threat – a Cornish man himself, Eden has created these variants with the utmost respect for his county’s regional speciality. He might have strayed from the traditional steak filling, but the shape, texture and outer pastry vessel remain true to the original classic style that we all know and love.

For those who want to stick to beef, the Wagyu and truffle oil pasty is a no brainer – filled with the finest Cornish Wagyu beef, heritage purple potatoes, leeks, swede and truffle oil. An alternative meaty variant comes in the form of flame grilled chicken with coconut, sweet piquillo peppers and Hogs Bottom Devon sweet chilli jam. For the veggies or cheese-lovers among you, we challenge you to resist the lure of the roasted cauliflower and West Country mature Cheddar pasty. This meat-free saffron-infused pasty comes filled generously with roasted cauliflower, mature cheddar, butternut squash, sweet potato, swede and toasted pine nuts. It’s seasoned with aromatic sumac and garnished with chia seeds – so you can trick yourself that it’s the healthy option.

At £4.99 a pop they’re certainly one of the priciest pasties we’ve come across, but for a hearty lunch option that’s perfect for munching on the move or at your desk we say treat yourself! After all, Pasty Week only comes about once a year…

Available in the Food Hall at Selfridges from 24-29 February 2020
