Leon launches UK's most affordable coffee subscription to rival Pret

High street coffee chain Leon has launched a new coffee subscription service to rival Pret a Manger, offering all the same perks but for £5 cheaper.

The new scheme, dubbed 'Roast Rewards', is available from Thursday 30 May and will set coffee-lovers back just £25 a month. The subscription allows members to enjoy up to five barista-made drinks a day, as well as receive 20% off breakfast and all-day food menus, excluding meal deals.

Pitched as the cheapest high street coffee subscription in the UK, the membership will be available exclusively through the Leon Club App, offering bonus loyalty points as an incentive to join as well as further points with every renewal.

Managing director Mac Plumpton commented: ‘We're so excited to unveil the UK's most affordable coffee subscription.

‘Get ready for a service packed with flavour, value and great coffee. At Leon we’re all about providing exceptional experiences at an unbeatable value.’

Leon was founded in London in 2004 by John Vincent, Henry Dimbleby and Allegra McEvedy, priding itself as a 'healthier' alternative to fast food with its rice boxes, curries and wraps. Today, there are almost 80 restaurants across the UK, as well as three in the Netherlands, whilst competitor Pret has around 450 UK branches with hundreds more around the globe.

Pret’s subscription model was launched back in 2020 as a way to bring commuters back into its shops following a decrease in footfall after the pandemic. The subscription, which was introduced at just £20 a month, has had several iterations over the years but has continued due to its popularity amongst customers.

The price was increased to £25 back in February 2023, then further increased to £30 just two months later when it was rebranded as ‘Club Pret’ and began to offer a 10% discount on its food. It later doubled its discount, now offering 20% off menu items to its subscribers as well as up to five coffees per day.
