After 14 years of service it was with great sadness that Fred Sirieix announced on his Instagram page yesterday that he would be leaving his role as General Manager at London restaurant Galvin at Windows.
In the heartfelt post he took the opportunity to thank all his friends and colleagues for their “selfless hospitality, kindness, hard-work, focus, professionalism and dedication” which enabled them to “create amazing experiences and deliver excellence to all our wonderful guests on the 28th floor”. The post was met with many well-wishing comments and tributes to his hard work over the years.
French-born Fred rose to fame in 2013 when he took on the role as a loveable and cheeky maître d’ on Channel 4’s popular show First Dates, which sees couples paired together for the first time at Paternoster’s Chop House in St Paul's. His kind demeanour, charming accent and the twinkle in his eye captured the hearts of viewers and he has since become an indispensable part of the show alongside droll barman, Merlin Griffiths. Now in its 13th series, and Fred still greets the daters with the same enthusiasm as he did on day one, but his step-down from his long term role at Galvin at Window could be a consequence of his increasing demand on other TV shows.
Since his First Dates debut, Sirieix has starred on many other restaurant related shows including My Million Pound Menu, The Art of Service, Michel Roux’s Service and more recently Snackmasters and ITV’s Road Trip series with Gordon Ramsay and Gino D’Acampo. However, his post suggests that he has no plans of slowing down, teasing fans about “another adventure” to come in 2020 and adding the hashtag #watchthisspace.
We can’t wait to find out what this ambassador for the hospitality industry has up his sleeve next!
