Food is a huge part of the Christmas season’s festivities, and a new survey has revealed which of the UK’s supermarkets is selling the best Christmas pudding for 2019.
The supermarket that has taken the crown is Aldi, which is selling its Christmas pud for only £12.99. The survey was conducted by consumer magazine Which? who blind tested 13 different puddings from well-known food retailers, judging the puddings on the categories of texture, aroma, appearance and of course, taste.
Aldi’s 800g Specially Selected Exquisite Vintage Pudding came out on top, seeing off competition from the likes of Marks & Spencer and Waitrose, as well as high-end retailers including Selfridges and Fortnum & Mason.

Aldi’s winning score awarded by the judging panel was 76%, with rival supermarket Asda coming in second place. Marks & Spencer won third place, while Waitrose and Lidl came in fourth and fifth place respectively. Cut-price supermarket Iceland came in last place. The judging panel have said they chose Aldi’s Christmas pudding as the winner because it was packed with high-quality fruit and nuts, with them giving particular praise to the addition of red cherries.
The survey has potentially proved that forking out lots of cash on an expensive Christmas pudding may not be worth it. It is also worth noting that the priciest pudding on the list, clocking in at a hefty £16 from Selfridges, only achieved eighth place in the final scores.
Julie Ashfield, managing director of buying at Aldi, said: “We are thrilled that our luxury Specially Selected Exquisite Vintage Pudding has been awarded a Which? Best Buy, demonstrating once again that great-tasting, exceptional quality products do not have to come at a premium price.”
Aldi’s winning Christmas pudding will be available in all of its stores from 5 December.
