Formerly the rather grim Goldsmith’s Tavern, the re-invented New Cross House retains some of its original, Victorian gin-palace features (note the wall tiles) in a lighter, brighter space tricked out in 21st-century shabby-chic with bentwood chairs & berry tones. This venue gained a reputation when it was briefly home to much-lauded pop-up burger joint, Meateasy, but it has now taken on new persona as part of the Capital Pubs’ stable. Enjoy a pint of Bonobo, Weasel or Greenwich Meantime in the sociable decked beer garden, with a wood burner to warm up chilly chill sessions. A pizza oven produces admirable thin crusts with a choice of toppings & there are modish bar bites, Asian-style seafood dishes, salads & veggie options for cal-counting yummy mummies – plus jumbo hot dogs, fried chicken & Sunday roasts for their meat-loving hubbies.
