Located in the Arcadian, just outside the Hippodrome in the centre of Birmingham on Hurst Street, Mythos Taverna is ideally located for a family or group meal out before or after the theatre. The Restaurant even offers a four-course set theatre menu. What you should expect is a traditional, authentic Greek experience with your food deriving from areas all across Greece, served in a restaurant designed to transport you to the Eastern Mediterranean.Dinner can be selected in one of two ways. You can be ‘selfish’ and order a meal just for yourself from the grill or the specialities menu – perhaps you fancy a souvlaki but be informed that the Mythos Taverna iteration is grilled meat served with rice and side salad, a lovely, healthier option than the flatbread filled with chips and meat that you may be used to. Moussaka and kleftiko are options too, for those who don’t pick the obvious option. The ‘less-selfish’ option is to opt for the mezedes, a tapas-style choice where you’re served with a few small plates (three for two people is advised), a very group friendly option. The selection on the menu is very balanced, with a myriad of dishes that appease a variety of appetites, desires, and dietary requirements. Bowls of dips are an option: Hummus, of course, with a hint of chilli; taramosalata or tirokafteri. Seafood options like calamari, sardines, tiganites and chargrilled octopus for the more Greek island feel. Or meat options like soutzoukakia from Smyrna, or the wild boar sausage Loukaniko. We’d advise coordinating with your table before ordering to ensure a wide selection of Hellenic classics.Throughout your meal you must remember to leave space for a sampling of the sweet, syrupy baklava, sweets, and ice cream that the restaurant makes itself. This will really set you off for a great evening at the theatre (or cap it off if you’ve been at a matinee), or wherever you and your family or friends are going this evening.
