Successful Japanese pop up Monohon Ramen now has this permanent site, replacing Malaysian/Chinese restaurant Sedap on Old Street. Translating as ‘the real thing’, Monohon is all about relaxed and authentic bowls of ramen. Small and filled with counter seats, the dining room also makes room for the food to be made in front of you, displaying cooking which stays true to traditional Japanese methods. The bone broth is simmered for twenty hours and served nuclear-hot, while noodles are made in-house with flour imported from Japan. Aiming to bring an unmanicured, non-westernised ramen-ya restaurant experience to the Old Street area, Monohon is certainly on a mission to maintain authenticity.
