Loungers venues are spreading around the country and this branch makes a welcome addition to Liverpool’s funky Lark Lane district. Milo Lounge is a concertedly shabby-chic spot, mirroring the decor – retro wallpaper, plentiful framed pictures – found in many a Victorian villa along the Lane. It’s the kind of friendly neighbourhood drop-in place where local students and young professionals turn up for breakfast, and visit again in the evening for live music and comedy shows. Specials on the food menu change rapidly, with a zingy Thai curry and aromatic jasmine rice heading the list of favourites, along with caramelised grilled halloumi salad. Burgers come in all varieties here, and so do tapas. Classics such as patatas bravas compete with honey-glazed shredded five-spice pork and chicken teriyaki skewers: all good sharing food for this congenial local pit-stop.
