Chef Tom Lewis and family are already big-timers hereabouts, thanks to the Monachyle Mhor hotel and its enterprising foodie offshoots. Now they have teamed up with Glasgow’s Deli/Cafezique to create Mhor 84 – a chic, value-for-money motel beside the A84 between Callander and Crianlarich. The 300-year-old building has been recast to include a tearoom, bar, shop, games room and events space, while the cooking depends largely on produce from the family’s farm in the Trossachs National Park. An array of cakes and pastries is bolstered by soups, Scotch rarebit, burgers, shellfish and wholesome braised dishes to satisfy the needs of travellers and guests staying at the motel – be it for breakfast, afternoon tea, supper or a late-night snack. Also expect regular ceilidhs and shindigs from local musicians, as well as some bracing outdoor opportunities (there are five Munros on the doorstep).
