Very much the go-to for mezze and kebabs in South Woodford, this “brilliant Turkish” is reckoned to be “simply the best” in the neighbourhood. A long bar and open grill at the front give way to a narrow, tunnel-like dining room with clothed tables, wooden floors and dangling lightbulbs strung across the curved ceiling, while images of movie queens and rock stars look down as punters work their way through the extensive menu. The mezze side of things runs from hummus, cacik, tabbouleh and yaprak sarma (stuffed vine leaves) to grilled halloumi, falafel, boregi pastries and spicy chicken livers, while mains see authentic Turkish grills alongside richly sauced steaks and Mediterranean specials including slow-cooked kleftiko, moussaka and penne with salmon in a creamy sauce. Desserts are also something of a mixed bag, moving from sticky baklava to tiramisu and profiteroles. Great-value lunches and decent cocktails too.
