OPENS MID-SEPTEMBER 2021
The second UK location for Marugame Udon finds its home at London music venue The O2. Hot on the heels of its debut site near Liverpool Street, Marugame O2 continues its mission to bring fresh Japanese noodles to the capital.
The dining room here is a large space which spreads itself across two floors, including a stylish mezzanine area and an open kitchen where guests can watch the chefs at work. There is a click-and-collect pick-up point for diners who are in a rush, but also plenty of dine-in tables for those who have more time to spare.
As for Marugame O2’s menu, you can expect to find signature dishes such as beef nikutama: udon with beef and caramelised onions in a dashi broth topped with a poached Onsen egg. Elsewhere on the menu, there is crispy prawn tempura and traditional Japanese Dorayaki pancakes, as well as a tempura section which includes chicken karaage, prawn and vegetarian options such as courgette and nori. To drink, guests can enjoy Asahi beer that is poured in just four seconds using state-of-the-art technology. Non-drinkers, meanwhile, can instead try traditional Japanese ramune lemonade.
Plant-based diners aren’t left out of the fun either, with Marugame O2 offering vegan dishes across 30% of its menu. Highlights from the range include a vegan version of the traditional kake udon, plus a stir-fried kimchi yaki udon, a curry udon and a vegan tempura batter.
To finish up with something sweet, you can treat yourself to unlimited vegan matcha or vanilla soft serve ice cream, or mochi balls from the Little Moons brand. This is a pocket-friendly option too for diners who are looking for a bargain, with bowls of udon noodles starting from just £3.45.
Speaking about the new opening, Janine Constantin-Russell, MD of Icon Outlet and the Entertainment District at The O2 commented: “We’re delighted to be welcoming Marugame Udon to The O2 to bring their fresh Japanese noodles and exciting flavour combinations to our visitors.”
