Situated in the captivating, popular setting of Liverpool’s Dockside, Maray invites customers to dine on a Middle Eastern journey that merges innovative flavours with the stunning waterside background.
Maray opened up in the summer of 2014, inspired by the owner’s experiences in the vibrant district of Le Marais, Paris, and similarly celebrates the vibrancy of Liverpool. The interior is a mixture of comfort and style, with a rustic, timeless feel and a lively bar. Since 2021, Maray has been carbon neutral, and have made committed statements to improve practices in how they source food, support farmers, treat staff and support the community.
Maray are pretty upfront with who their suppliers are, and stock the very popular Karma Drinks and Brew Tea Co. The menu kicks off with a Maray Negroni aperitif, before a selection of mezze dishes, followed by plenty of vegetable and meat options. From the baked halloumi with zaalouk and pomegranate molasses and fried aubergine with green tahini and tomato salsa, to the pork cheeks and crispy squid with saffron aioli, the fusions of Middle Eastern cuisine are prevalent on the menu at Maray. It’s worth bearing in mind, however, that the menu can change daily as Maray orders in fresh. Complementing the flavours is a solid selection of wines, craft beers, and cocktails, including a Whip Royale of peach, ginger, sparkling wine and cucumber, and a long and refreshing Rose Spritz, containing Lillet Rose, elderflower, pink grapefruit, passion fruit and prosecco.
There's a whole vegan menu, with a mezze section, plenty of small plates including a falafel sharer board, chicken dopiaza and caramelised cabbage, and chocolate and sesame tart for dessert, topped with coffee, apricot and raspberries.
