From the team behind controversial burgermeisters Almost Famous, this first-floor taco shack is apparently inspired by the food, booze and ‘naughtiness’ discovered on a drive from Las Vegas to Mexico. Dishes don’t entirely glow with Californian good health: for every lettuce cup stuffed with seared chicken, teriyaki sauce and mango salsa, there’s a bacon-wrapped jalapeño filled with goats’ cheese and served with chorizo aïoli. Amid the red plastic chairs and strong drink, the service is sunny and the menu is brazen, with multifaceted dishes piled high with sour cream, taco sauce and guacamole. Burritos including the Baddabing – with shredded pork, crispy beef, chorizo, bacon, cheese, rice, fries, chillis, salad, coriander pesto, marinara sauce, sun-dried tomato aïoli and Parmesan – are quite the mouthful. Quesadillas come with bacon cheeseburger filling, and if it’s an actual burger you’re after, the kitchen will produce a crispy coconut chicken version with – what else? – Teriyaki shrimp.
