In a shipping container by the sea in Folkestone, you'll find Little Rock. This charming restaurant serves up fresh, local and seasonal seafood and fish from the surrounding area. Located just off the boardwalk, next door to its sister Pilot Bar, the shipping container is simply furnished. Wooden chairs and tables occupy the dining room, while the area outside features deck chairs, palm trees and an awning to keep off the harsh Kent sun. It's a relaxing place, where diners can sip on rose in the sun, snack on oysters, or tuck in to a full seafood feast for the evening.
For a simple starter, try the chilled summer gazpacho with herb oil and toasted sourdough, or go for a half dozen of Pyefleet Pure oysters with all the classic accoutrements. Aside from the cold dishes, you'll find salt and pepper squid, grilled local scallops with garlic and herb butter and a hot-smoked salmon caesar. This being a proper seafood restaurant, we recommend sampling something from the counter. This could be the catch of the day, cooked as you like (baked, pan-fried or grilled) with your choice of sauce, or a seafood platter to share, featuring oysters, Folkestone crab, whipped Cod's roe, prawns, mussels, marinated whelks and cockles.
After your starters, tuck into a hearty seafood main such as pale ale battered cod cheeks, Folkestone crab with oyster leaf and toasted docker sourdough, chilli and garlic prawns or grilled mackerel fillets with shaved fennel and orange salad. Vegetarians can enjoy a burrata with marinated heritage tomatoes, basil pesto, black olives and croutons. Finish with the likes of a lavish Knickerbocker glory, lemon meringue cheesecake with yuzu sorbet or marinated Kentish strawberries with vanilla cream and honeycomb. In the drinks department, you'll find a short but carefully-selected selection of wines, beers and spirits.
