Set in the Vale of Belvoir just a dozen or so miles from Nottingham, Langar Hall harks back to yesteryear with its sleepy Georgian setting & country house decor – think old portraits, landscapes & antique furniture. The cooking relies on fresh local produce, with Stilton cheeses from Colston Basset, Cropwell Bishop & Long Clawson among the many specialities offered here. At dinner, expect a warm salad of wood pigeon with roast shallots ahead of seared sea trout with sauce vierge or shank of Langar Park lamb with roast new potatoes & confit garlic. To finish, try the iced passionfruit parfait with bitter chocolate sorbet. The home-baked bread is superb, service is attentive & the house has a lovely lived in feel.
