A long-standing favourite among both locals and visitors, Landgate Bistro prides itself on serving best-of-British dishes which either revel in classicalism or offer a modern twist to proceedings. The restaurant is run by partners Martin Peacock and Nilla Westin, with Peacock heading up the kitchen while Westin takes care of the front of the house.
The dining room at Landgate Bistro is a rustic chic space, complete with romantic lighting, dark wood furnishings and large mirrors that bounce light around the space. The bistro’s menu is underpinned by ingredients which have been sourced from the local area, including nearby fields, woodlands and waters. Furthermore, everything on the menu is cooked fresh on site, down to the sourdough bread available as a starting snack and the ice creams offered up for dessert.
Landgate Bistro opens for both lunch and dinner, serving an a la carte which evolves with the seasons and is dictated by the availability of local produce. On your visit, you might find starters such as Jerusalem artichoke soup served with croutons or tortellini filled with pork in red wine,
served with walnuts, cabbage and pickled onion. For your main course, choose between options such as roasted fillet of cod served with spiced chickpeas and cod fritter or Marsh lamb, paired with carrot puree and gratin potato. To round off your meal, explore the seasonal pudding menu filled with sweet treats or instead opt for a selection of artisan English cheeses.
Vegetarian options are often available on the menu, while gluten-free diners can enjoy most of the food offering, but be sure to check with your server before ordering. Children are welcome too, with kids under the age of eight able to enjoy half portions of the adult-sized dishes at half the price. Grown ups meanwhile, should pay attention to the formidable wine list.
