Kothel was brought to the heart of Glasgow's West End in 2019, when the doors opened on Great Western Road. This dog friendly cafe is available for walk-ins only, from 8am until 8pm. If you're in town and hunting for somewhere to grab a tasty sandwich, refuel with coffee or enjoy artisan cakes and breads, you know where to head.
Breakfast is served from opening, and consists of a breakfast roll stuffed with bacon, sausage, potato rosti, Stornoway black pudding, vegan sausage and avocado, whilst a lighter option of Greek yoghurt is topped with seeds, berries and honey. Buttery and delicious, the hot waffles are topped with a generous portion of fresh fruit and honey, and pastries of croissants with ricotta and honey and pistachio crumble are great with one of the cafe's many coffees.
There's a fresh selection of cakes, traybakes and biscuits to enjoy on the counter each day, that are made fresh in house. Some of the cake flavours you may find on the counter include a classic Victoria sponge, chocolate Guinness cake, salted caramel, chocolate mint, coconut, ginger, lemon curd, chocolate orange, raspberry, lime and zucchini and many more.
There are also plenty of seasonal drinks to try, such as peach iced tea and strawberry matcha lattes. Sandwiches are what Kothel does best, with options of baguettes, bagels, bloomers and brown rolls. The habibi is a filling option containing curried chicken, jalapenos, mayo and iceberg lettuce, then there's the caprese with mozzarella, tomato, pesto, rocket, olive oil and balsamic. The 300 bagel will make you think of NYC, with beef pastrami, cheddar, rocket, mustard, caramelised onion chutney and gherkins, whereas the Italiano is more reminiscent of cobbled Mediterranean streets, consisting of pistachio mortadella, prosciutto, mozzarella, mayo and rocket.
