Westfield Stratford City & the swish chain eateries inside it will transform eating out in E15, but there will always be a market for an honest-to-goodness pub in the area. The dark, low-ceilinged, wood-panelled King Edward VII is just such a place. A pint of the house beer, Nethergate’s King Eddie’s, feels like the right choice though it’s up against competition on the pumps from St Austell’s Tribute & Cottage Brewing Company’s Sunbeam Tiger. You’ll also find a predictable roster of big names – Guinness, Stella, Fosters & the rest. Grape fans will be heartened (if not exactly wowed) by the choice of a dozen wines by the glass, all for under a fiver & none of them Stowells. The gastropub-style menu lists crowd-pleasing burgers, bangers & steaks alongside more-ambitious dishes of tea-smoked trout with Jersey Royals.
