Antony Worrall Thompson knows a thing or two about good food, & consequently his Grill has become the gastronomic restaurant of choice around Kew Green. It’s not the most stylish of venues – bare brick walls are enlivened by jewelled cushions & lively posters – but it’s perfectly comfortable. Meat is the metier here, easily surpassing the fish & vegetarian choices. Beef (even the burgers) is prime Aberdeenshire Scottish, aged 35 days. Choose your cut of steak & the chefs will cook it to order. Calf’s liver, pork belly & grilled chicken are also worth considering. Kick off with retro starters (prawn cocktail, stuffed mushrooms, bang bang chicken with peanut sauce) & round off (if you’re still capable), with crumble & custard. A serious, red-heavy wine list complements the food.
