Kendal is a town in Cumbria that acts as the southern gateway to the Lake District, with an unusual network of lanes. For a few fun facts, you might be interested to learn that Kendal has been famous for its production of snuff since 1792, and is where the Kendal Mint Cake originated – which accompanied Sir Edmund Hillary on the first successful ascent of Everest in 1953. This part of Cumbria has plenty of stunning and untamed countryside as well as having a charming town centre. If being outdoors is your thing, you can take a stroll on the banks of River Kent or head to Scout Scar for breathtaking views over the Lakeland fells. And, if you enjoy cultural events, you'll be pleased to hear that Kendal is home to many international festivals each year.
