Phil Kember and Claire Jones opened this fine-food emporium in the heart of the city’s West End in 2004, and run it is as a temptingly stocked deli/kitchenware store and café, with a daily menu based on the best of the season’s pickings (augmented by ingredients sold in the shop itself). Breakfast might run to waffles with maple syrup or Wiltshire ham and Gruyère croissants, while lunch brings goodies such as open tuna niçoise sandwiches (on home-baked organic bread), chorizo, manchego, roasted potato and olive salad, charcuterie and cheese platters – plus blackboard specials along the lines of fishcakes, lamb tagine or beef bourguignon. There are also gorgeous homemade scones and cakes (the giant meringues and mini chocolate tarts are particularly popular). The café is licensed, but the signature espresso-blend coffee is very good too.
