Peddling its Japanese wares across the road from Earls Court station, Kappa is a simple & stylish venue with an independent spirit. The head chef/proprietor worked at Roka & Nobu London before striking out on his own, although his gaff eschews West End glamour in favour of doing the simple things correctly (& at half the price). Sushi & sashimi range from unagi (eel) to sought-after o-toro (fatty tuna), with a variety of maki rolls including beef rib-eye marinated in miso with asparagus & spring onion. Hot mains also cover plenty of ground, from sizzling yakiniku (slices of teppanyaki-style beef in a fruity, garlicky soy sauce) to tempura udon noodles, while specials ring the changes with, say, authentic-looking takoyaki (deep-fried octopus balls). Takeaways & deliveries for residents of SW5, too.
