There’s really nothing quite like a proper curry house which blends wonderful Indian food with that cosy, nostalgic charm we’ve grown to love as Brits. Kadir’s, found just south of Portsmouth in Eastney is one of the area’s most popular spots to enjoy a warming meal with family and friends. The service is one of the things people love most about it too, with sweet staff on hand to ensure everyone has a lovely experience while in their care.
The dining room is no frills – a wooden floor, brightly painted walls, and suspended lantern lighting overhead. This is all part of the charm though and sets the scene for a meal that is wholly unpretentious.
One of our top picks from the menu is the thali plate – which you can order as a regular or vegetarian serve depending on your preference. This gives you a great taste of a range of the kitchen’s best bites and comes loaded with food for under £17 per person. The meat one is piled high with chicken pakora, lamb bhuna, garlic chicken, tarka daal, raita, salad, rice, puri, and even gulab jamun for dessert. It’s heaven on a plate and combines plenty of colours, flavours and textures for a meal that you’ll enjoy until the very last bite.
If you prefer to order a la carte, the main menu is far-reaching and includes many favourites as well as a run of house specials. Kick off with street eats like king prawn puri or masala tenders before moving on to mains of creamy chicken pasanda, salmon jhalfrezi or a tandoori mixed grill which combines an assortment of chicken tikka, lamb tikka, tandoori chicken, lamb chops and chicken wings, all served with a naan. Another crowd-pleaser is the biryani section which offers fragrant pots of layered rice with your choice of meat, fish, veg or paneer.
