We’re banning lavatorial humour in this write-up of Joe Public: a California-style pizza joint that’s the new inhabitant of an erstwhile public convenience by Clapham Common. Sit on bar stools or at unadorned wooden tables in the airy, tiled interior (or outside on benches), and order pizza by the slice or by the enormous 20-inch whole. Crispy thin sourdough bases arrive with classic toppings (margherita and pepperoni both feature, though without their normal monikers), or piled with combos that are altogether more up-to-date (pesto, sweet potato, spinach, pine nuts, beetroot). There’s even wine on tap, great whiskies and JP’s own-label beer to accompany the food if you’re eating in the restaurant. For breakfast, you can choose Caravan coffee to go with a serious freshly baked butty filled with bacon or sausage. There’s nothing bog standard about that.
