‘The most beautiful bar in the West End’ boasts the website, which is rather overstating Jewel’s merits. While its various moodily lit, salubrious salons show promise, Jewel is not quite in the Carla Bruni league. Dive in for an elderflower Collins, el diabolo (a berry & lime José Cuervo mule) or some like it hot (Courvoisier Exclusif, Cointreau, lime, strawberry jam, balsamic vinegar & chilli flakes). If that sounds a tad too recherché, be advised that ‘nothing tops a Champagne concoction for a sip of sophistication’, according to the blurb: a French martini is ‘the epitome of elegance’, don’t you know? Wines from £17 won’t hurt the wallet, & there’s a popular menu of tapas, platters to share & even Victoria Beckham’s old standby, steamed edamame beans.
