In a grand former antiques shop on Abbeydale Road, Jameson’s Tearoom & Kitchen combines the elegance of a traditional British afternoon tea with the best culinary techniques and Yorkshire produce.
On stripped wooden floors beneath glittering chandeliers, enjoy afternoon tea with all the trimmings - here, you can choose from no fewer than eight menus for your tea. If you’d like your afternoon tea done exactly as it ‘should’ be, the Jameson’s Traditional Afternoon Tea will be up your street, with such stalwarts as finely sliced cucumber sandwiches, scones with jam and clotted cream, and generous slices of cake from a daily selection. This option costs a very reasonable £18 per head, but you can upgrade the slightly more luxurious Magnificent Afternoon Tea for a further £10.50, which includes a bottle of Prosecco or wine (white or rose).
If you fancy something just a little more modern, you might prefer Jameson’s alternative afternoon tea for vegans and vegetarians (can be modified for either diet upon request), with finger sandwich options including falafel, hummus, and tomato, and red pepper, cashew paté and rocket. We’d also be remiss if we didn’t mention the splendidly named Cheese Lovers Afternoon Tea, where a plate of well-loved classics such as Brie, Stilton, and Wensleydale share the stage with fresh apple, grapes, chutney, celery and crackers.
But the food offering at Jameson’s doesn’t end there. If afternoon tea isn’t your thing, they also offer sandwiches and toasties (with vegan cheese always an option), New York-style bagels a wide range of breakfast classics - porridge, a Full English, avocado and egg on toast - as well as an impressive line in variants on traditional Welsh rarebit - we particularly like the sound of the Spanish rarebit, featuring wholegrain mustard, horseradish, grated red cheddar cheese, and chorizo.
