A spin-off from Jak’s organic café/deli, this bar (on the former site of Tini) is a night-time drop-in, much favoured by perky young locals & moneyed hippies. The two venues are only a few doors apart, so you can easily order food from the café & wait for it in the bar, sipping on a fresh-fruit cocktail created by ex-Floridita bar manager Tonin Racaj. The room is warm, inviting & almost colonial in style, with comfortable sofas, copper-topped tables & bookshelves of collectable ephemera – tin soldiers, antique typewriters & dog-eared copies of Punch. Latin jazz from a bygone age booms over the stereo & sets the room swinging. Despite its low ceilings, Jak’s retains an airy feel – thanks to skylights & open front doors, which allow punters to spill out onto the pavement.
