Since launching on a trike in 2011, indie ice cream maker Jack’s Gelato has gathered something of a cult following thanks to its array of mouth-watering ices. Flavours range from the truly traditional (think strawberry and cream) and classic culinary combos (such as gin, apple and elderflower), to those of Blumenthal-esque quirkiness (banana, miso and malt, anyone?). There are usually around nine flavours – both ice creams and sorbets – offered at any one time; something to suit every palate is the aim. Jack’s is a key player on Cambridge’s street-food scene and can be found at pop-up events throughout the county. However, for those who can’t wait for the Twitter-feed to give away the next location, the business now has a permanent concession in lifestyle shop, Nord, in the centre of town.
